Business History:

Derrick's technical background began with his father and grandfather who were mechanics with Overnight Freight Lines. His uncle taught small engine repair courses at a local technical college. Derrick spent many hours as a youngster working beside his family members on everything from lawnmowers, boats, cars, and tractors to bicycles. At the age of 10, he rode around the Atlanta area with his uncle working on mowers, air compressors and other industrial equipment earning his first paycheck of $75.00 for the entire summer. That experience planted the seed. In 1976, he began working at a Snapper dealership in Monroe, Georgia. He worked there during high school and college. While pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration degree majoring in Accounting, he began to realize that his passion was for doing mechanical work not sitting in an office. In 1984, he went to work at another Snapper dealership; this time in the big city of Atlanta. As a result of this job, Derrick received a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience in managing a small business in a professional manner. Derrick credits the Henderson family for mentoring him and expanding his vision to the potential of the lawn and garden industry's vast opportunities. It was during this time that Derrick recognized the great need for a "mobile" business to provide on-site service to the homeowner. Fifteen years after the seed was planted while riding around with his uncle that summer, it began to grow and Mobile Mower Medics, Inc. was born in 1986!
